CHELSEA have reportedly taken a major step in their pursuit of Jeremy Jacquet.

It is claimed the Blues have agreed personal terms with the Rennes defender with the clubs yet to green light a fee.

However, it is claimed the Ligue 1 outfit will hold firm for a club record transfer deal for the 20-year-old to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims a contract is ready for the youngster with the player keen and talks ongoing.

He states Rennes want around €65m [Over £56million] to do business.

They sold Jeremy Doku to Manchester City for €60m and Liam Rosenior and his new club will need to go above that in order to land their man.

It is claimed the current bid on offer from Stamford Bridge is lower than the kind of fee Rennes are looking to bank.

Chelsea splashed out a number of big fees in the previous window during their recruitment drive.

They brought in the likes of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho and Liam Delap as part of a summer splurge.

Rosenior will have his eyes on finishing in the top four and booking Champions League football for next season.
