Christmas tractor run comes to Blackrod to spread festive cheer

For it was the 2025 official Haigh Aspull & Blackrod Christmas Tractor Run, which returned to the streets of Blackrod and Horwich for its second edition this Sunday to deliver a dose of festive cheer.

The event was raising money for Three Wishes, the registered charity of the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – in particular for the children’s section known as the Rainbow Ward.

The run started at Haigh Barn, passed through Aspull and into Blackrod village before finishing where it started at Haigh Barn.

Haigh Barn manager Alan Woodall said: “It was very good.

“It’s the second year they’ve done it now, so it was bigger and better than it was last year.”

A total of £5,739 has been raised so far, far outstripping the original goal of £1000.

Around 70 tractors were registered to take part in total, though only 65 travelled on the night – decked out in Christmas lights, tinsel, and all manner of weird and wacky costumes.

There were inflatable snowmen, Santa in his sleigh, Christmas trees, and even a sad looking Grinch trapped in a large cage.

Residents were on standby to wave in the tractors, with crowds gathered at The Moor Gate, Stanley Road, and along Scot lane.

This was Bolton’s second tractor run in only two weeks, following hot on the heels of the popular Turton Tractor Run.
