Coronation Street icon reinvented as a ‘momager’ in unexpected Hollywood role | Soaps
Reinvention is the key to success, just ask Madonna, and it seems that Coronation Street’s Katy Cavanagh, beloved by soap fans as human ray of sunshine, Julie Carp, has taken a few tips from the Queen of pop…and perhaps one or two from the Queen of branding your offspring, Kris Jenner.
Julie returned to Coronation Street last year as part of sister Eileen Grimshaw’s (Sue Cleaver) exit storyline, and after confessing she was suffering with terminal, stage-four cancer, sadly took her own life.
Since then, she’s put her own career ‘on the back burner’, and dedicated herself to managing her two sons, who are both incredibly successful actors in their own right.
Eldest son, Noah Jupe, is a certified film star, having played in A Quiet Place (and its sequel), Honey Boy, Ford v Ferrari and also Hamnet, alongside his younger brother, Jacobi, who has previously had turns in Peter Pan and Wendy and Before.
Katy accompanied both of her sons to the 2026 BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills this weekend, after their turns in Hamnet snagged them both seats at the prestigious soiree, with the film nominated for a Golden Globe.
An insider spilled some tea on the role Katy has played in the boys rise to international stardom: ‘She’s put everything into helping the boys have the best start in the industry.
‘She’s put her own career on the back burner to help them realise their dreams.
‘Obviously she’s not known in Hollywood, so it’s not like her name has particularly opened doors for them, but she’s got them into the industry and is constantly helping them.’
Noah previously spoke out on how grateful he is to his mum and dad, film producer Chris Jupe, and the impact they’ve had on his career: ‘Without them, a – I don’t think I would’ve chosen the same level of jobs, potentially, and b – I might’ve not been mentally the way I am right now.’
Jacobi agreed: ‘Honestly, I don’t know how I would be here if it weren’t for them.’
Jacobi was the first of the brothers to be cast in Hamnet, with filming beginning before casting was complete. With the role of Hamlet still vacant, Katy suggested to director Chloe Zhao that Noah would be a perfect fit for the role.
‘Two months into their shoot and I got a call from my mum and Chloe, and they’re very giddy and smiling. They say to me, ‘How would you feel about playing Hamlet?’ It was obviously something you just cannot turn down’ Noah previously told Time magazine.

The family of four have also teamed up to create a production company with the aim of creating their own films. Katy has thrown herself into writing scripts, with her first being touted as a ‘psychological thriller’.
A source said: ‘Katy’s not only a Corrie icon but a hugely talented writer. Teaming up with her producer husband and Hollywood superstar son is a no brainer.
‘The sky’s the limit for them.’
Noah himself spoke on how the balance of the family leans itself to creative endeavours: ‘It’s always been a dream of my parents, my mum was an actress for a while, my dad was a producer, been an AD, been on a film set his whole life, so we’re a very film family.
‘We’re very savvy in terms of the industry. It was very helpful with me working as a kid because my parents would be on set and they know what they were doing, and they’d know about all the different intricacies of being on set.
‘My dad’s got a very producer head, very smart, very logistical, my mum’s very creative. It’s a very good balance of all the things.’
