Fans of the ITV soap have been left saddened by Swarla’s split following the return of Becky Swain
Coronation Street star Vicky Myers has offered a bit of ‘hope’ to fans of her on-screen relationship after they were left heartbroken by their recent split.
The actress is best known for playing DS Lisa Swain in the ITV soap, having made her debut in the role back in 2021. But as those who follow the long-running show know, it wasn’t until early last year that the character became a regular on the cobbles.
It brought Lisa even closer to the Weatherfield action, and she’s been involved in plenty of it since, as Vicky’s new contract led to her character striking up a relationship with Carla Connor, played by fan-favourite Alison King.
While the relationship has faced its ups and downs, things seemed to be going in the right direction after Lisa and Carla, dubbed ‘Swarla’, moved into their first home together, No.6 Coronation Street, before getting engaged.
However, their partnership has since faced its biggest test to date thanks to the arrival of Lisa’s former wife, Becky Swain, who came back from the dead in September, almost four years after Lisa was led to believe she had been killed in the line of duty.
Becky has since been getting in between Lisa and Carla, with a clear intention to get her family back together – whatever it takes – and she’s already succeeded in splitting them up, as Carla called time on her and Lisa’s relationship.
But having initially moved out of their home, Carla returned to No.6, is now working with Lisa’s colleague, DC Kit Green, to try and get to the bottom of what Becky and Costello have been hiding for all this time. However, Costello now being in hospital having been subject to a brutal attack is making things more difficult.
But Vicky has tried to give fans some hope about Lisa and Carla’s relationship. Speaking to Inside Soap ahead of the festive season, she was asked if there was hope that Carla might return, to which she replied: “There will always be hope because Lisa has never known a love like it.
“That’s her first, real love. Carla’s home to Lisa, she grounds her, she has the stability that Lisa’s needed for such a long time. She’s ever grateful to Carla. But if somebody’s constantly ignoring you, at what point do you go, I respect your wishes. I’ll step away…’”
