Darlington roads closures over Christmas and New Year

Here are the areas you should know about when travelling around Darlington over the Festive period:

Thompson Street East to See Traffic Signals

Drivers on Thompson Street East, from Davison Road to Salters Lane, will face two-way traffic signals.

Northern Powergrid (Northeast) Limited is scheduled to install a new underground electric cable.

Works involve excavating the footway for around 500 metres, with connections to be made once the cable is in place.

The road will be affected from November 24 to January 30, 2026.

Barmpton Lane Utility Works Planned

Barmpton Lane, from Whinbush Way to 23a, is also set for work.

From November 10 to February 20, 2026, Northern Powergrid (Northeast) Limited is using two-way signals for utility asset works.

This project will see the footway excavated for about 500 metres, with two road crossings outside number 84 and opposite 63.

The new underground electric cable will then be joined and connected.

Road Closures in Harrowgate Village and Beaumont Hill

Long-term road closures are planned for Harrowgate Village and Beaumont Hill.

Both closures began on March 31 and are scheduled to finish by March 27, 2026.

The closures, from Dewberry Lane to Village Hall in Harrowgate Village and from Dewberry Lane to 25 Beaumont Hill, are for highway improvement works linked to new development projects.
