The Food Standards Agency has issued an urgent recall for 700ml bottles of Disaronno sold in Scotland due to fears they may contain small pieces of glass.

A beloved festive tipple has been yanked from shop shelves amid urgent safety concerns over potential glass contamination.

The almond-flavoured liqueur Disaronno has been withdrawn from supermarkets following an emergency recall notice issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). Tuesday’s alert covers 700ml bottles distributed across England and Scotland.

The FSA revealed that manufacturer Illva Saronno has pulled the product because of “the possible presence of small pieces of glass within some bottles of product, which could make it unsafe to drink”. Seven specific batches potentially containing tainted bottles have been pinpointed, with the contamination thought to stem from an “anomaly on the bottle line”, according to the recall documentation, reports the Mirror.

Customers are being told to examine the codes printed on the rear of their bottles. The problematic bottles bear these numbers: 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442, 25444.
