Donald Trump has issued a horror three-word warning to NATO after he was quizzed today about how far he is willing to go to acquire Greenland.

The US President continues to push his controversial claim on the Danish territory and has insisted that Greenland is required for “security reasons”. Trump has several times touted the threats of Russia and China as reason to claim the country – which is hundreds of years older than the US – and once said he needed it for “psychological” reasons, reports the Mirror.

He has refused multiple times to state whether he will use military force to invade and subjugate a sovereign territory, and went on to deliver his most chilling response to the question yet.

President Donald Trump made the statement while appearing at today’s White House press briefing to mark the first anniversary of the start of his second term in office, as he faces extraordinary pushback from America’s European allies over his latest move on Greenland. Over the weekend, he said he would sting European nations, including the UK, with 10 per cent tarriffs so long as they opposed him.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described Trump’s planned new tariffs over Greenland as “a mistake especially between long-standing allies”.

She also called into question Trump’s trustworthiness, saying that he had agreed last year not to impose more tariffs on members of the bloc. Trump announced that starting February, a 10 per cent import tax will be imposed on goods from eight European nations that have rallied around Denmark in the wake of his stepped up calls for the United States to take over the semi-autonomous Danish territory.

When asked how far he was willing to go while addressing press gathered at the White House earlier this evening, Trump snapped back: “You’ll find out.”

Trump in a message to European officials made public this week linked his aggressive stance on Greenland to last year’s decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize, telling Norway’s prime minister that he no longer felt “an obligation to think purely of Peace.” And he waved aside comments from Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

Mr Store issued a statement on Monday noting that the Norwegian government holds no sway over who is receives the Peace Prize. “And don’t let anyone tell you that Norway doesn’t control the shots. OK?” Trump said. “It’s in Norway.”

Trump spent more than a full hour at the briefing room podium raging in front of journalists as he justified his controversial first year, while European officials spoke from the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. Among speakers at the event today was Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who warned that, thanks to “American hegemony” the “old order is not coming back”.
