Donald Trump has announced the US will take control of Venezuela after special forces seized President Nicolás Maduro and his wife from their home in a military operation that saw strikes across the capital.

At a press conference today, the American president stated: “Were going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition. He added: ” He further added: “We want peace, liberty and justice for the great people of Venezuela, that includes people living in the US and who want to go home.”
His comments came after the Venezuelan leader and his spouse were apprehended by Delta Force special forces troops while they slept in their heavily fortified residence on a military base.
Sources relayed to journalists that the president and his wife were “dragged from their bedroom” where they had been sleeping and transported onto a US military helicopter.
The couple was flown to the USS warship, the Iwo Jima, stationed in the Caribbean, Trump informed Fox and Friends, and they are being extradited to the US to face criminal charges. Both Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores are facing charges related to narco-terrorism, according to Trump, reports the Mirror.
In his conversation with Fox and Friends, Trump revealed that the operation had been delayed due to weather conditions and had been planned “four days ago”. “I think we had nobody killed,” the US president said, adding that “a couple of guys were hit, but they came back and they’re supposed to be in pretty good shape.”
The Venezuelan capital was subjected to numerous strikes overnight, with at least several explosions recorded across the city in the early hours of the morning. The defence minister of Venezuela stated that civilian areas had been targeted, adding that the country would stand against the US aggression.
A state of emergency has been declared in the country and military forces have been deployed onto the streets.
