US President Donald Trump has claimed that Venezuela will be handing over between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States in a bold announcement on social media

US President Donald Trump has announced that Venezuela will be handing over between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to the US, in a bold statement made to the world.

“I am pleased to announce that the Interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil, to the United States of America,” Trump declared on the social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday, January 6.

Trump stated that the oil would be sold at market price and he would oversee the funds “to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States!” He revealed that he has instructed Energy Secretary Chris Wright to immediately implement the plan, reports the Mirror..

The oil will be transported by storage ships and delivered directly to unloading docks in the US, he added. The post concluded with the phrase ‘thank you for your attention to this matter!”

This comes as Trump has also been exploring a “range of options” to acquire Greenland, according to the White House. This follows insistence from Sir Keir Starmer and other European leaders that the US president must back down from threats to take over the territory.

The White House released a statement indicating that the use of the US military is “always an option” for the president to contemplate.

Mr Trump has maintained that acquiring Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory, is crucial for his nation’s security.
