'Don't listen to that' - George Russell and Lando Norris have awkward confrontation after Qatar GP qualifying

GEORGE RUSSELL accused Lando Norris of BLAMING him for a mistake on his final lap at the Grand Prix Qualifying.

Norris, 26, lost out on top spot after making a mistake in Q3, allowing his McLaren team-mate, Oscar Piastri to take pole.

Since Lewis Hamilton left Mercedes, Russell has taken on the responsibility of being their most senior driver.

As for Norris, he will be hoping to have a better start on the grid and brush last year’s Qatar Grand Prix performance aside.

He finished 10th, receiving a 10-second stop-and-go penalty for ignoring double yellow flags.

The pair had an awkward encounter ahead of today’s Qatar Grand Prix race.

During Russell’s interview with Dazn España, he unconventionally accused Norris.

Russell said: “Mate, you told the media the reason you messed up Turn 1 was because of me?”

Norris replied: “Who said that?”

Russell claimed: “Someone said you’re blaming me?”

Norris furiously hit back: “We’re with media, mate. All they do is spread bulls***.

“Can’t believe you believe them over me. It’s pretty disappointing.”

Russell brutally responded: “It sounded like something you would say, though.”

But this is not the first time Russell has openly shared his feelings about other F1 drivers.

During a race weekend, he claimed team-mates were ‘distracted’ over his own TV advert, continuously shown in the drivers’ hotel rooms.

The penultimate race of the 2025 Formula 1 season will kick off at 4pm GMT.
