Police are appealing for information
A driver crashed into a railway crossing while being pursued by police. Cambridgeshire Police were on patrol on Rustat Road, Cambridge just before 8.30pm (Tuesday, January 13).
While on patrol, a driver failed to stop in their car for police. Officers pursued the car and the driver continued onto the A1307 towards Haverhill.
The car then travelled towards Shelford and crashed through a level crossing barrier in Great Shelford. The pursuit was then abandoned by police due to a risk to public safety.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers were on patrol on Rustat Road, Cambridge at 8.28pm yesterday when the driver of a car failed to stop. A pursuit began and the driver continued to the A1307 towards Haverhill before then travelling towards Shelford and crashing through the level crossing barrier at Great Shelford.
“The pursuit was abandoned by police soon after due to the risk to public safety.”
Cambridgeshire Police is appealing for information. Anyone with information should call police on 101 or report it online and quote 519 of January 13.
