Drivers warned of road and bridge inspection near Strathaven

All road users should allow additional time for all journeys which involve the use of B743, Muirkirk Road during the works.

Improvements to a road and a bridge inspection are to take place just outside Strathaven from next week.

The investigation works at Powbrone Bridge and resurfacing of the B743 Muirkirk Road will take place over two weeks, starting from 8am on Monday, December 8, until 4pm on Friday, December 19.

Any repairs that need done to the bridge following the inspection will also be carried out during this period.

The B743 will close from its junction with B745 (Waterhead, Peelhill and Linbank Highway) to the Ayrshire boundary. Alternative route during the closure will be Via B743, A70, B7078, B7086, A71, B743 and vice versa.

Head of South Lanarkshire Council’s Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may occur during these essential road improvement works.

“We would request that all road users allow additional time for all journeys which involve the use of B743, Muirkirk Road during the dates indicated and that they plan their journey accordingly.”
