The ITV soap will reveal Ray Walters’ killer in upcoming episodes
Emmerdale viewers think they’ve cracked the case as a week of “whodunnit” episodes is set to air in Emmerdale for the death of Ray Walters.
Actor Joe Absolom joined the cast of Emmerdale as Ray Walters last year, and was introduced as a drug dealer who was first seen buying cannabis from Robert Sugden.
However, things took a dark turn when teenagers April and Dylan became involved in his drug empire, as he told them they needed to pay off their debt to his boss.
His boss was soon revealed to be Celia Daniels, a mystery farmer who had purchased some land on the outskirts of the village and worked closely with Moira Dingle.
Not only that, but Celia was later confirmed as being Ray’s adopted mother, with the pair not only running a drug empire, but also a slavery business on the farm.
They took in vulnerable individuals and forced them to work to the bone for very little, and living in poor conditions. One of the slaves was Bear Wolf, Paddy Kirk’s father who had been missing for months.
April eventually told Marlon and Rhona everything that had been going on, but Celia threatened the family if they dared to report them. Things took another drastic turn, however, when Celia told Ray to kill April, and in return she’d kill Bear who he had grown quite close to so they could start a fresh life somewhere else.
Realising that he’d have to give up his relationship with Laurel Thomas, Ray used the knife that Celia had given him to kill his mother, but his own fate wasn’t too different.
He was last seen zipped up in a body bag and being dragged by an unidentified villager, and in upcoming episodes the ITV soap will air a week-long “whodunnit” sharing all of the potential suspects for his murder.
The suspects are Laurel, Rhona and Marlon, with us finally seeing what happened to Ray on Thursday (January 22), and the aftermath to air on Friday of that same week.
Now, viewers have been trying to guess who the real killer could be, with some suggesting that although Arthur Thomas (Laurel’s son) isn’t on the list, he could be the one to have committed the act.
On a Reddit thread, a user wrote: “They could be reverse psychology-ing us. Making Laurel and Arthur look extra shifty so that WE think that it’s a red herring when really they did actually do it” as u/harlequin-jigsaw added: “Arthur not being seen for ages and just randomly shows up in tonight’s episode for no reason. My money is on a wildcard like Arthur or bear. If it’s bear I think he’s also buried Celia’s body.”
Another viewer, u/irishmounjarojourney agreed: “I said this to my friend. Think about it, Ray hurt Laurel and April, his mum and best friend. And he’s not exactly on good terms with Jai but knows Jai would protect him so put Ray’s body in his van”.
u/diligent_reading_786 penned: “Arthur hasn’t been on screen in months, let alone had a storyline. Now he’s randomly reappearing after Ray is murdered? Not to mention how shifty he looks?”
