Robert proved he’d do anything to help Victoria Sugden
Emmerdale fans issue same plea to keep Robert Sugden safe as he agreed to do a risky job for blackmailer Joe Tate.
Actor Ryan Hawley reprised his Emmerdale role as Robert Sugden earlier this year after six years away from the ITV soap. Robert was sentenced in 2019 for the death of Lee Posner, and he swiftly cut off contact with Victoria Sugden and ex-husband Aaron Dingle.
His return came as Aaron was set to marry ex-Army medic John Sugden, and although Robert attempted to get Aaron back his efforts were rejected as Aaron vowed to move on without him.
Things turned around for the former couple when John fled the country after his harrowing crimes – including the murder of Nate Robinson – was finally exposed.
Although they were stopped in their tracks once again when Robert’s secret prison husband Kev Townsend also showed up. In the end, he left too and “Robron” could finally move on.
Of course, it’s soap world and it would never be so simple. Ahead of Corriedale which saw the ITV soap merge with Coronation Street for one night only, John returned to win Aaron back once again.
Things escalated when Aaron pretended to still be in love with him, before holding him at gunpoint and instructing his ex-husband to hand himself in at the police station.
What ensued, however, turned out to be deadly as John drove recklessly and ignored Aaron’s pleas to slow down. Instead, they ended up crashing into Becky Swain’s (Corrie) car.
John managed to escape, but his freedom was short lived as he was later found dead in the woods. It was then revealed that Victoria Sugden had killed him after he had drugged her back at her home earlier on.
She confessed everything to Robert and Aaron who swore to help her. However, Joe Tate had secretly seen the whole thing and filmed her killing John ready to use for blackmail.
During Thursday’s (January 8) episode, Joe forced Robert to plant passports from Celia Daniels farm in Moira Dingle’s home so that he would be able to claim the farmland for himself if Moira was arrested.
As viewers will recall, Celia ran a sickening modern slavery business on the farm, exploiting vulnerable people. Moira did see the passports briefly when she visited the farm, but will she piece two and two together?
Moira spotted Robert poking around Butler’s farm forcing him to try and come up with an excuse fast, but now viewers are asking him to not get involved with Joe.
