Emmerdale’s Chris Coghlll discusses that Robert Sugden scene
Chris Coghill, who plays the role of Kev Townsend, said a scene in which his character got hold of the mic at a karaoke night to serenade Robert Sugden (played by Ryan Hawley) was painful.
Sharing his thoughts about the experience on social media, the actor said he struggles to understand how the rest of the cast managed to keep a straight face while filming.

The Emmerdale star said on Instagram: “First of all… thank you for the love for Kev.. secondly, a few people asked how many takes it took to film tonight’s ’singing’ …
“The answer is I did the full song all the way through once. SO… under extreme duress from production, here is the most utterly excruciating four f****** minutes of my life…’ He wrote alongside the video.”
Despite the actor’s clear dislike of the scene, fans of the ITV programme were quick to share their support, saying it is among the funniest moments in the show’s history.
One viewer said: “Kev is the comedy we’ve needed – loved the pinnie n feather duster, still scared me, fabulous character with lots of little gems.”
Another added: “Chris, you played this perfectly! So cringey but amazing! Thank you for sharing with us.”
Some of his co-stars also left comments, with Danny B Miller, who plays the role of Aaron Dingle, writing: “Easily one of the funniest and most heartbreaking scenes I’ve ever done.”
Fellow actor John Simm added: “I have to say that it may also be the most excruciating 4 mins of my life as well. But I still love you.”

He is perhaps best known for his current role as Kev Townsend in Emmerdale, but he has also starred in other soaps such as EastEnders on the BBC.
