An escaped inmate has been apprehended following an intensive police search.

Liam Wall, aged 36, is now being held in custody, according to authorities.

Gwent Police have confirmed the fugitive’s capture on the evening of Tuesday 16 December, two days after his escape from HMP Prescoed on Sunday. Following his disappearance, officers had issued a public appeal for information and cautioned against approaching him directly, Wales Online reports.

Wall received his conviction for drug-related crimes at Cardiff Crown Court in 2017. Physical descriptions circulated by police detailed him as approximately five feet eight inches in height, bald, with brown eyes and a brown beard.

A force spokesperson announced: “Liam Wall, 36, who absconded from HMP Prescoed, on Sunday 14 December, has now been arrested. He’s currently in police custody.”

They added: “Thanks for sharing our appeal.” His recapture follows the implementation of a dedicated operational strategy by Gwent Police to locate the absconder.

Wall was among four individuals from a drugs operation imprisoned for their role in managing what authorities described as “the busiest drugs line in Cardiff”. His arrest in November 2016 occurred alongside two associates whilst travelling in a blue BMW on the M4 near Coldra, returning from Liverpool where they had been sourcing additional narcotics.

Police seizures during the investigation yielded approximately £22,000 worth of illegal substances, including 2kg of amphetamine.
