The man stole household items from four different shops
A thief on a spree in Bretton, Peterborough, stole hundreds of pounds worth of household items before being caught. The man, who had a prior suspended sentence, stole a range of goods from four different shops in the town totalling £600.
James Law, 26, began a series of thefts on May 2 at Subway, in Bretton Court. Law and another man filled a bag with bottled drinks and packets of crisps worth more than £100. Later that same day, the pair targeted Pets at Home, stealing £50 worth of dog food.
Law continued his spree throughout the following week. Law went on to steal a variety of food, soft drinks and alcohol totalling more than £300 from Morrisons Daily, in Bretton Centre, and BP, in Bretton Way.
Using CCTV to identify Law, Cambridgeshire Police caught up with him. He was arrested on May 18, after stealing more than £100 worth of deli items and drinks from the BP filling station. At the time, a bag containing two grams of cocaine was found inside Law’s wallet in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.
At Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, November 14, Law, of no fixed address, was sentenced to one year and five months in prison after activating his previous suspended sentence. He pleaded guilty to eight counts of theft, one count of possession of cocaine, and one count of failing to surrender to police bail.
PC Simon Clark said: “Law went on a shoplifting spree for more than two weeks, targeting businesses across Bretton and stealing almost £600 worth of goods. Retail theft is not a victimless crime, and it will remain a priority for us.”
