The video showed fans scrapping in the stand at Old Trafford
The truth has been revealed about a social media video posted online that claimed to show men scrapping at Old Trafford during a Manchester United game on Sunday (January 11).
Manchester United lost 1-2 to Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford ground on Sunday in the third round of the FA Cup.
A video, which has amassed more than 600,000 views on X, formerly Twitter, was posted online and showed men fighting in the stands. It claimed it was filmed at the match on Sunday and that Manchester United had incorrectly lost 2-0.
The caption read: “Man United fans at Old Trafford fighting each other today after losing 2-0 against Brighton.” It appeared to show a man in a red branded jersey and bucket hat leaning over the barrier and aiming for another fan in the stands.
The brawl then spills further into the stand, as another man intervenes and pushes the pair back. A steward can be seen frantically waving for help as one fan then falls to the ground and others attempt to break up the chaos.
A quick search from the page the video was shared to showed the same video had also been posted on the social media platform on December 17.
Manchester United confirmed the video had instead been filmed earlier in the season. It’s thought it may have been filmed during a match against Chelsea last year.
The club added that the incident has since been dealt with and reiterated it was not recorded during the fixture against Brighton, despite posts circulating on social media platforms.
“That’s not from today’s game …..” one user posted beneath the video. Another wrote: “Anything for clicks I guess, but this was not last night.”
