A famous chef, who has worked in Michelin star kitchens, has opened a second location of his Indian restaurant in Peterborough. Tindli, which was created by Manoj Karnavar, takes the techniques the chef learnt while working in some of the country’s top restaurants and applies them to Indian cuisine.

Mr Karnavar’s love of cooking started when he would spend time in the kitchen with his grandparents, who focused on using fresh ingredients for their own backyard. He became interested in learning more about Michelin star restaurants and travelled the world, working with a range of chefs.

He said: “I moved to the Savoy in London. I was lucky enough to work with a chef who was Daniel Boulud’s head chef before he joined the Savoy. The techniques I learned from international cuisine, I’m now applying to Indian cuisine. I started my own business in 2014 using my chef background and focused it on using fresh and healthy ingredients.”

The first Tindli restaurant was opened in Croydon. Mr Karnavar has decided to open his second location in Peterborough, as it is a “very vibrant place”.

Customers can expect “amazing dishes on the menu” that have been created using international techniques including all types of meat, fish, and vegetables as well as vegan dishes to make sure the options are “well balanced”. There are also a range of different “festive” menus for big events throughout the year.

If you are not sure what to try on your first visit, Mr Karnavar has a recommendation that he promises will be “an amazing experience”. He said: “I created a dish called fish mohini. You can’t find it anywhere else. It is inspired by two dishes, one from Kerala and one from West Bengal. It consists of all healthy ingredients like turmeric and coconut milk. It is a medium spicy dish and has lots of vegetables in it like okra and aubergine. It comes with Kerala appam, which is a fermented pancake with coconut and rice.”

The restaurant has already received a lot of praise from its first few customers. Mr Karnavar said: “One of the guests said in his message he had travelled across the world and to India many times and tried many major Michelin Indian restaurants. He said the food here was much better than any of that and he had the best experience here.”

Tindli is described as having a “very modern atmosphere” with an “amazing bar” where you can try one of the bespoke cocktails created for the Peterborough location. Mr Karnavar said: “It’s very honest cooking. We use fresh produce and healthy oils in the kitchen and we really think about how a person can enjoy a meal including the ambiance and the way it is served. It will be a wonderful experience.”

Tindli can be found inside Katana at 44 Broadway in Peterborough. The restaurant is open from 5pm to 10pm on Tuesdays, from 12pm to 2.30pm and from 5pm to 10pm on Wednesdays through to Fridays, and from 12pm to 4pm and from 5pm to 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
