Farage Faces Pressure To Dismiss Candidate Who Said Lammy Should Go Home
Nigel Farage has been urged to sack a Reform UK candidate who said David Lammy should “go home” to the Caribbean.
Dr Chris Parry, who is running to be mayor of Hampshire and the Solent, said that was where the justice secretary’s “loyalties lie”.
His comments were unearthed by the Daily Telegraph, which also found that Parry had described female cabinet ministers as “harpies” and suggested parliament would be filled with Muslim MPs by 2035.
Parry, who served in the Royal Navy for 30 years, reacted on X to a report that Lammy was “open” to paying slavery reparations to former British colonies.
He wrote: “Lammy must go home to the Caribbean where loyalties lie.”
Labour MP Calvin Bailey, who served in the RAF, has written to Farage urging him to take action against his candidate.
In his letter, seen by HuffPost UK, he said the Telegraph article “exposed a string of utterly vile racist and misogynistic remarks made by Dr Parry about fellow politicians”.
The MP added: “Do you endorse Dr Parry’s grim remarks – or will you sack him as your candidate?
“A failure to do act on your part would further demonstrate a lack of suitability for high office.
“I’ve dedicated half of my life in service to this country in the Royal Air Force. I’ve fought alongside those who strive to make Britain a safer and better place every single day.
“Reform’s brand of politics undermines that struggle and is taking us down a divisive path. You must urgently act to correct this.”
The row comes as Farage himself struggles to shake off accusations that he racially abused fellow pupils when he was a student at Dulwich College in the 1970s.
In his letter to Farage, Bailey said: “You have consistently claimed Reform’s vetting procedures are of the highest standards. Yet from the leadership and down, senior Reform figures continue to be dogged with accusations of racism and misogyny.
“It’s dragging our politics to a dangerous place and it must be challenged.”
Reform UK have been contacted for comment.
