More than 30 firefighters were called to the recycling centre with reports of a fire
The cause of a huge fire at a recycling centre in Cambridgeshire has been confirmed by Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service. Crews were called to a recycling centre on Alconbury Hill at 8:24am on Wednesday, December 31.
Crews from St Neots, Chatteris, Whittlesey, Dogsthorpe, Gamlingay, the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade, Kettering, and the north roaming fire engine worked to tackle the fire involving waste at the centre. Over 30 firefighters attended the scene.
The crews worked to contain the fire. They made regular inspections of the area to check the progress of the fire burning out. It has been confirmed that the cause of the fire was accidental.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 8.24am on Wednesday (31) crews were called to a fire on Alconbury Hill in Alconbury.
“More than 30 firefighters, including crews from St Neots, Chatteris, Whittlesey, the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade, Dogsthorpe, Gamlingay and the north roaming fire engine, along with a crew from Kettering in Northamptonshire, are at the scene.
“Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving waste at a recycling centre. Crews worked hard to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading. They made regular inspections to check on the progress of the fire burning out. The cause of the fire was accidental.”
