Firefighters called to rubbish blaze in Daubhill, Bolton

The incident took place outside a flat on Linslade Gardens in Daubhill, just off Derby Street, late on Friday night, January 23.

Three fire engines were called to the fire, using a hose reel to put it out.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At shortly before 11.40pm on Friday, January 23, three fire engines from Bolton, Bolton North and Farnworth fire stations were called to a fire involving rubbish outside a residential building on Linslade Gardens, Bolton.

“Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. Crews were in attendance for around 40 minutes.”

An eyewitness said he saw fire crews on scene on the night in question, adding that the amount of rubbish tipped in the area “is just waiting for (someone) to set it alight”.

This comes after fly tipping issues have been reported elsewhere in Daubhill in recent years.

Longfield Road has long had trouble with rubbish being dumped in the area, including pieces of old furniture and large bags of waste.

The Bolton News reported in March last year that residents said the area was badly afflicted with the issue, having previously published another report highlighting the issue in that location in September 2024.

Also in September 2024 was a joint clean-up effort between Bolton Council, Bolton at Home, volunteers and local businesses to improve public spaces by tackling fly tipping in the Rumworth ward, which Daubhill falls under.

The day of action was organised after local residents notified the council of a significant amount of waste discarded in the back streets.

Prior to the event, the council’s environmental enforcement officer had attended the area in search of evidence in reported flytipping, resulting in multiple fixed penalty notices being issued.
