Firefighters tackle blaze at flats near Cambridgeshire border

The flats surrounding the fire were evacuated as a precaution

Firefighters were called to a block of flats in Newmarket with reports of a fire yesterday evening (Friday, January 16). Crews from both Suffolk and Cambridgeshire attended the first floor flat fire at Churchill Court Flats on Churchill Court at 9.41pm.

Three fire engines from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service attended to the scene. Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service crews from Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Ixworth, Brandon, and Newmarket were called to the scene.

Firefighters used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. It is believed the fire is contained to the flat.

It is believed no one was in the affected flat. Other flats on the first floor around the fire were evacuated as a precaution.
