Firefighters tackle kitchen fire in Darlington house

Two crews from Darlington fire station responded to the call, made shortly before 5.30pm, and reached the scene in Hercules Street within minutes.

People from neighbouring houses had emerged onto the street to witness what was taking place.

Four firefighters, wearing breathing kit, entered the terraced property, deploying two hose reels to put out the fire.

The crew members then used smoke clearance equipment to rid the property of lingering fumes.

A control operator at County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the fire was “completely extinguished”, with the “stop” message for the incident received by 6.12pm.

There were no reports of any casualties arising from the fire, which appeared to have been confined to the kitchen area of the house.
