Flood alert in Elvington and parts of East Yorkshire

The Environment Agency (EA) said flooding from the Lower River Derwent is possible in Elvington, Pocklington, Wilberfoss, Stamford Bridge and Wressle.

Further north and east, the Upper River Derwent has an alert for areas including Old Malton and Priorpot Beck in Norton.

At Elvington Sluices, the River Derwent level at 8am was 6.32 metres, over the top of the normal range of 6.1 metres and holding steady.

The EA said the level is expected to peak this morning and it is closely monitoring the situation.

A flood alert means flooding is possible and the agency advice includes avoiding walking, cycling, or driving through any flood water and moving livestock and equipment away from areas likely to flood.

The Met Office said today’s weather for Yorkshire and The Humber will be largely cloudy with showers or longer spells of rain with occasional brighter intervals and showers will continue overnight.
