Flooding is expected from around 6am on Monday
The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for a village near Greater Manchester as heavy rain is forecast throughout the night and into Monday.
Flooding is expected in Walsden, near Todmorden from 6am on Monday, December 1. Flood warnings, a step up from flood alerts, mean flooding is expected and people should act now.
The Environment Agency warning states: “High river levels are expected to cause flooding throughout the morning. Flooding is expected on 01 December 2025 from approximately 0600 with further rainfall expected.
“Locations most affected will be Walsden from Bottomley Lock to Clough Mill including Rochdale Road, Walsden Station and Walsden School. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels .Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.”
A Met Office yellow weather warning for rain is in place for Greater Manchester and other areas of the North West. It comes into force at 12.01am on Monday and will remain in place until 3am on Tuesday.
The warning states: “An area of heavy rain will move steadily east across the area during Monday. Whilst the rain may ease for a time during the afternoon across Cumbria, another pulse of heavy rain is possible here during the evening and overnight, with all rain eventually clearing early Tuesday morning.
“20-40 mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely across the warning area, but higher ground could see 50-80 mm, with perhaps nearer 100-120 mm in a few places over the Cumbrian fells. Strong south to southwesterly winds will also accompany the heavy rain, with gales possible around coasts and over high ground.”
