Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Everton in the Premier League with Gary Neville giving his assessment of the performance
Gary Neville has slammed one moment from Manchester United’s defeat to Everton in the Premier League. United were beaten 1-0 by the Toffees in the Monday Night Football to see their unbeaten run come to an end.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the only goal of the game to hand United their fourth defeat in the Premier League this season. The game also saw Everton reduced to 10 men for much of the contest after Idrissa Gueye appeared to slap his own teammate, Michael Keane, in the first half.
United had the numerical advantage for the majority of the game but could not make it count, as they fell to their first defeat in the league since September 27 against Brentford.
Ruben Amorim and Co. will now prepare to face Crystal Palace in their next Premier League fixture at the weekend, where they will be determined to return to winning ways.
Neville was on commentary for Sky Sports’ coverage of United’s defeat to Everton, where he was unhappy with his former club’s tactical set-up after the Toffees had a player sent off.

It was also on commentary that Neville was not happy with a moment from Luke Shaw during the second half when United were trying to find an equaliser. Everton went long from a goal-kick as Neville highlighted the number of United players back in defence compared to the Everton players they were covering.
“You’ve got five defenders at the back. Why? And they didn’t even win the header. Or the second ball. Embarrassing,” Neville said.
He added: “[Luke] Shaw has started to move forward a little bit but he’s ambling forward let’s be clear.
“He’s been bugging me for the last 20 minutes and I am just going to say it. Look at him. You can’t do that.
“You should be running forward every single time. I don’t care. “What he is doing there is a waste of time, you’re not conning anybody. I am not having it.”
Neville also weighed in on the decision from referee Tony Harrington to send off Gueye in the first half for Everton. “It’s a coming together between him and Michael Keane. It always looks unsavoury when it’s teammate on teammate,” said Neville at the time of the incident.
“Idrissa Gueye has gone over to Keane – he hasn’t really reacted. He just pushes him, and then there’s not much in it. There’s not much in it. I mean, I think Jordan Pickford does a very good job [breaking it up] to be fair to him.”
However, former Everton manager Roberto Martinez insisted the referee had no option but to show Gueye the red card.
“No I was very surprised because you need to be intense,” Martinez said. “You need to be intense. The reaction here, you’ve got a lot of bodies in the box.
“Obviously it’s a bit of a misunderstanding [Gueye trying to play the ball to Keane and they blame each other]. Clearly it’s a misunderstanding, Gueye is trying to play the ball but it’s that reaction here, that slap, open hand.
“We’ve been talking about it many times. I think the referee has no other choice. When you see it there, the law tells you any aggression above the neck is a red card.”
