George Clooney Recalls Thinking His Career Would End After Heated Argument With TV Producer

George Clooney is reflecting on how he thought it was curtains for his career after he got into a heated on-set argument with a TV producer years ago.

In a new interview with W Magazine published on Tuesday, the two-time Oscar winner opened up about the spat after being asked if he ever thought about giving up acting before finding stardom on the long-running drama series ER.

“About 10 years [into my career], I got in an argument with an executive producer,” he recalled.

“I was the third or fourth banana on a TV show, and I had to leave. I thought that was the end of my career.”

The Jay Kelly star did not share the producer’s name or the name of the show where the incident took place.

“I wasn’t in a position of power, but I wasn’t going to be spoken to the way that I was,” Clooney explained. “I told him to knock it off. He yelled at me. I yelled back.”

Noting that “it’s still debatable whether I was fired or I quit”, he continued: “Someone who I had helped out years earlier read that I’d been fired. He brought me in for an audition and gave me a pilot. That kept me in town.”

On the topic of disagreements, Clooney, who has been married to his wife Amal since 2014, revealed in an interview on Travis and Jason Kelce’s podcast New Heights last month why he never argues with his wife.

“Neither of us are going to win the argument, so why get in?” Clooney told the brothers, noting that age plays a role in his perspective.

“Dude, I’m 64 years old. And what am I going to argue about at this point? You know? I’ve met this incredible woman that is… she’s beautiful and smart, and she stands for all the most important things I believe in the world. And I can’t believe how lucky I am. So, what am I going to fight about?”

Meanwhile, Clooney, his wife and their two eight-year-old children, Alexander and Ella, were granted French citizenship late last year, according to government documents.
