Golden Globes Host Nikki Glaser Admits She’s Afraid To Joke About Julia Roberts
After impressing viewers by roasting pretty much all of Hollywood at last year’s Golden Globes, comedian Nikki Glaser is currently gearing up for her second year of hosting this coming weekend.
However, she’s admitted that there’s one A-list nominee she’s feeling a little nervous about poking fun at.
Earlier this week, Nikki made an appearance on CBS Mornings, where she told anchor Gayle King about how she’s been testing out her new Golden Globes material at various comedy clubs around LA.
“I’m trying out my monologue around LA at the clubs here,” she explained, before revealing that these audiences were “not there for” any of the jokes she’s told about Julia Roberts.
“You cannot make fun of America’s sweetheart,” she claimed. “So… whatever I end up saying about her [on the night will be] the most fine-tuned joke that I’ve worked on so hard, because [she] is [a] very delicate [subject].”

On how she’s approaching her opening monologue, Nikki claimed: “You have to be very delicate about making jokes that aren’t going to ruin anyone’s night, but you also want to give the people at home something to laugh at and poke fun at the people that they’re dying for you to make fun of.
“People at home want you to make fun of the A-listers, they want you to make them feel a little bit uncomfortable, so it’s covert in the sense that I want to get away with those jokes, without just ruining the vibe in the room.
“So, it’s really strategic and one of the most difficult jobs that I’ve ever had.”
During last year’s monologue, Nikki came for everyone from Ben Affleck to Timothée Chalamet, with the latter apparently even planning to “skip” the ceremony due to the barbs that were planned about him.
Nikki later shared some of the more near-the-knuckle and “mean” jokes that she eventually scrapped from her opening routine.
The 2026 Golden Globes will take place on Sunday evening in Los Angeles, California.
