Piers was taken to hospital after being left needing a new hip following a fall
Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid has sent a message to Piers Morgan after her former ITV co-star was rushed to hospital over the weekend.
Piers famously left Good Morning Britain, which he began presenting in 2015, after Meghan Markle issued a formal complaint to ITV about comments he made in 2021. Following Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah, where she admitted she struggled with suicidal thoughts, Piers said he did not believe a word she said.
In the wake of his comments, which saw over 41,000 complaints made to regulator Ofcom, Piers went on to land a show on TalkTV, which ran from 2022 until 2024. His series Piers Morgan Uncensored has since moved to YouTube.
Taking to social media on Sunday (January 18), Piers revealed that he was set to undergo surgery and needs a new hip after suffering a fall in London. Joking that the year was ‘off to a cracking start’, Piers shared an image of him resting in a hospital bed.
He captioned the post: “BREAKING NEWS 1. Tripped on small step. 2. In a London hotel restaurant. 3. Fractured femur. 4. So badly I needed new hip. 5. Recovering in hospital. 6. Crutches for 6wks 7. No long-haul for 12 wks. 8. New Year off to a cracking start! 9. I blame Donald Trump.”
Joined on Good Morning Britain by her co-presenter Ed Balls on Monday (January 19), Susanna informed viewers that it was ‘blue Monday’. Susanna explained that it is known as ‘the most miserable day of the year’ and falls on the third Monday of the year.
Susanna went on to use Blue Monday as a chance to inform viewers of Piers’ incident. She said: “Not a great morning for our good friend Piers Morgan, although I have to say, he is recovering well in hospital.
“That was the picture he posted on Instagram. He has a new hip. So good luck with your recovery.”
Susanna told fans that she believes Piers is ‘going to be in the hospital for a few days as he recovers’. Saying that she offered to ‘turn up with grapes’, Susanna noted that Piers told her he ‘has enough to open a vineyard’.
“There was a restaurant involved and a stumble, and a whole new hip. So get well soon, Piers. He’ll be out soon, and we hope he gets better quickly,” she said.
Prior to Susanna’s comments, Piers returned to X, previously known as Twitter, to share an image of a newspaper discussing his fall, jokingly calling his former programme out for not talking about his injuries.
“I think you guys are missing the big news today @susannareid100 @edballs @GMB,” he teased.
It’s been a turbulent period for Good Morning Britain, which has been airing for an extra 30 minutes for the past three weeks amid major changes at ITV. The changes means that Lorraine Kelly’s self-titled talk show now only airs for 30 minutes
