Dr Matthew Jones, formerly known as Matthew Adam, is also accused of taking inappropriate pictures of himself at St Margaret’s Hospital in Auchterarder. The doctor, who operates in Angus, Perth and Kinross, has been accused of carrying out the procedures which were “not clinically indicated and which were sexually motivated” on two females aged 26 and 27.

The exams allegedly took place in January and December 2015. One of his patients was said to be vulnerable because of her mental health.

Dr Jones will stand before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) next month. A hearing date has been scheduled for February 2.

The watchdog will examine the allegations. If they are proved, Dr Jones, who specialises in infectious diseases and general medicine, could face disciplinary action or lose his job.

A statement on the MPTS website reads: “The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that, in January and December 2015, Dr Jones consulted with Patient A and Patient B respectively and undertook examinations which were not clinically indicated and which were sexually motivated. It is also alleged that Patient B was vulnerable due to her mental health.

“It is further alleged that, in June 2019, Dr Jones engaged in sexual behaviour at St Margaret’s Hospital in that he took one or more inappropriate photographs of himself on his personal mobile phone in the residential room of the hospital.”

The medic was cleared of the sexual assault allegations following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow in 2021. He told the court that he examined both women for abdominal complaints – one in the surgery and one at her home.

The doctor told jurors the examination involved prodding and rubbing of the body from the lower ribs to the patient’s pelvic bone. He insisted saying he “absolutely” did not go further down the body of either woman.

The 26-year-old woman claimed in evidence that she “froze” after being inappropriately touched during an examination by Dr Adam. She alleged that Dr Jones appeared “aroused” during the appointment at a medical centre in Forfar, Angus.

She told the court she went to the doctor complaining of stomach cramps. She said he prodded her chest and ribs and added: “He just moved further down and got lower to my belly button and I started to feel uncomfortable.”

She then alleged that Dr Jones moved his hand under her trousers where he rubbed and prodded her for “a couple of seconds.” The woman then claimed Jones pushed his groin against her leg or arm and added: “I looked to see what he was doing and I was shocked with what I saw. I saw that he was aroused in some way.”

The second woman claimed she was sexually assaulted by Dr Adam while he was examining her at her home. She also alleged that Dr Jones came back unannounced later that day with medication and groped her for a second time.

Dr Jones said he returned with medication due to an error with an NHS driver who was supposed to deliver it. The GP said “Thank you” after the jury found him not guilty on both counts.
