Flixton Road has partially flooded

“What are they making the pipes out of? Tissue paper?”

A Greater Manchester road appears to have flooded again – less than three months after the street last became submerged due to a burst pipe.

Flixton Road, in Urmston, Trafford, has been seen partially underwater in new pictures taken on Thursday night (December 11). Images showed the murky water nearing people’s homes near to the junction with Rothiemay Road.

It comes less than three months after the same road last became submerged, with nearby footpaths also closed by police and fire crews due to sudden flooding which hit the area in September.

At the time, water could be seen rising through what appears to be a pipe in the ground. United Utilities later confirmed the flooding was due to a burst mains pipe. Residents were forced to try and clear the water by using plungers, brooms, sticks and rakes in nearby grates.

New pictures shared on social media on Thursday (December 11) show the same stretch of road flooded again, with United Utilities also in attendance. The water board said this was due to a leak caused by a burst pipe. Some living locally said it was once again affecting water pressure.

One local commented: “It’s affecting our pressure again in Urmston,” as another posted: “Omg not again.” Another also quipped: “What are they making the pipes out of? Tissue paper?”

“Beyond a joke now,” commented another. “The state of the drains at the moment are a disgrace on Irlam and Flixton Road.”

United Utilities said it is aware of a leak at the site on Flixton Road and that engineers are on site. It’s understood to have been caused by a burst pipe.

A statement online read: “We’re sorry if you’re experiencing no water or low water pressure right now. A burst has been reported to us on Flixton Road and we can confirm this is the cause of the problem. We’re on with it and our team will be in the area as soon as possible to get this fixed.”

Trafford Council have been contacted for a comment.
