Half Of Brits Think Starmer Will Be Replaced As PM In 2026

Keir Starmer has just been hit with yet another bit of bad news as a new poll revealed half of Brits expect him to be kicked out of No.10 by the end of 2026.

The Labour leader has overseen a steep decline in the polls ever since his party’s landslide victory in July 2024′s general election.

Starmer’s own personal ratings have also sunk to historically low levels for a new prime minister.

A YouGov poll for Sky News found 31% think the PM will “probably” be replaced by this time next year, and a further 19% said he will “definitely” be out within the next 12 months.

Only 35% of respondents said they still think Starmer will be in No.10.

The government has insisted that the prime minister’s job is secure, with Labour Party chair Anna Turley saying on Sunday that Starmer would “absolutely” still be in his post by next Christmas.

But it comes after the prime minister himself admitted that speculation about his job is “pretty rife”.

Meanwhile, his health secretary Wes Streeting – long rumoured to have his eye on No.10 – said he would be “diplomatically ducking” questions about potentially throwing his hat in the ring to one day be prime minister, although he also expressed his full support for Starmer.

YouGov looked at how Brits feel about the state of the country right now too, and found 71% believe the economy had got worse over the last 12 months and only 7% think it has improved.

In a further sign of the mass discontent with the government, pubs from across the country have been barring Labour MPs from entry.

The move comes in protest at Rachel Reeves’ changes to business rates announced in her latest Budget.
