Harry must be plotting RETURN to UK with Meghan

PRINCE Harry’s stubborn fight for funded security in the UK is signalling a return to the country with Meghan, a royal expert has claimed.

Appearing on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, experts suggested the Duke of Sussex may be “clearing the path” home.

Harry has won a Home Office review of the decision to strip him of 24-hour armed police protection on visits to the UK.

The U-turn could pave the way for a reunion between the King and grandkids Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, who live in the US.

The Sun’s Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson asked his guests on our show: “But is it fair to say that we can add stubborn to the Duke of Sussex? Because he will not let this security issue go.”

Chief Royal Correspondent at Newsweek, Jack Royston, replied: “And so if he’s now being assessed by the Risk Assessment/Bodyguard (R&B) again, does that suggest that he might be planning some kind of a move back to Britain or more time in Britain or some kind of return to some form of royal duty?”

The Duke of Sussex blamed an “establishment stitch-up” after losing a High Court fight this year to reinstate his taxpayer-funded privilege.

But The Sun revealed the Home Office has now ordered a threat assessment for the first time since Harry stepped down as a working royal in 2020.

Harry, who served in Afghanistan, was previously said to face the most serious risk, alongside only the late Queen and the PM.

But it is claimed his rating had fallen during an assessment in February 2020, meaning his automatic right to armed protection was removed.

He then left for the US, where his annual security bill is estimated to run into millions.

Royal Reporter Bronte Coy told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show: “For there to be this very dramatic U-turn in the whole situation where he is effectively getting what he wants, although we don’t know what the outcome of this assessment will be, it just feels like an extraordinary sort of new chapter in the whole saga.

“It comes at such an interesting time, where we’ve been watching so closely Harry’s moves towards reconciliation with his father, and the fact that they met up in September when he was over here.

“And it does beg the question sort of is something afoot? Is something happening? Are we moving towards clearing the path for Harry to be more involved in the UK and the royal family?”

The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) has now instructed its Risk Management Board to reassess Harr’s threat level for the first time in nearly six years.

It is understood the process is already under way, with evidence taken from police, government and Harry’s team.

A decision is expected next month from the government body, which is overseen by the Home Office.

If it rules he requires armed protection then taxpayers would pay for it whenever he is in the UK.

Harry currently has to contact the Met Police 30 days before arriving in the UK for a security review on a case-by-case basis.

Sources have argued that is more expensive than a few salaried armed officers on the rare occasions he does return.

In May, the Home Office said it was “pleased” with the High Court decision not to reinstate his automatic protection.

However the California-based duke claimed he did not feel safe enough to bring his family here.

In a blistering 30-minute interview, Harry slammed the decision as a “good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up”.

He said: “The other side have won in keeping me unsafe. I can’t see a world in which I will be bringing my wife and children back at this point.”

Harry has since returned alone, including in September where he attended charity events and met his dad for the first time in 19 months.

He also wrote to newly installed Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood asking for a risk reassessment.

The reunion of Prince Harry and King Charles saw them swap presents and kisses on the cheek — but there were no plans made for the future.

After the 53-minute summit at Clarence House, wild rumours circulated that the pair had discussed Harry resuming some royal duties on a “half-in, half-out” basis.

However, the pair’s sit down was “distinctly formal” and there is still no prospect of Harry returning to the family fold.

Harry was surprised by the formalities of his recent reunion with the King — and even joked he felt more like an “official visitor” than a family member, we can reveal.

He handed his father a framed photograph of their children Archie and Lilibet to mark their reunion – but Harry and Meghan were not in the family photo.

His Majesty has not seen his grandchildren since the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 and Harry claims it is not safe for them to fly back to the UK.

A government spokesman said: “The UK government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate.

“It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”
