Helen Skelton has opened up on her connection with her TV co-host Gethin Jones. The pair’s relationship has been speculated for several months following Helen’s marriage breakdown.
Now, the Morning Live presenter has revealed just how close the pair are in a candid interview. And she also made on honest confession surrounding her kids, admitting they sometimes find her embarrassing.
Helen, 42, who split from husband Richie Myler in 2022, admitted that her bond with Gethin is so strong they often forget they’re on air together. She says that being “such good mates” can often make filming “tricky”, especially when filming The One show alongside Michelle Ackerley.

Speaking to Prima Magazine, Helen said: “I’ve been friends with Michelle and Gethin for 25 years. Geth was on Blue Peter before me, so we’ve always crossed paths, and Michelle and I were flatmates when we lived in London.
“We’re all in the same frame of mind. The tricky bit is, we’re such good mates that sometimes we forget we’re on air. I see my work friends as much as I do my real friends.”
Speculation surrounding Helen and Gethin, 47, intensified as they were spotted in public on a number of occasions. And recently they have been at award ceremonies together, including an appearance on the red carpet at the Pride of Britain Awards in October and the Royal Television Society Awards last month.
They have kept quiet on rumours with sources claiming their connection had become romantic earlier this year. But BBC bosses reportedly want the popular duo to come clean about the true nature of their relationship – for the sake of the viewers.
One boss told the Daily Mail after their Pride of Britain cosy appearance: “There’s a common feeling among them [BBC bosses] that it’s time for Helen and Gethin to confirm where they stand and stop playing around with the viewers. It’s time for clarity.
“Standing together on that red carpet has only confused viewers, who truly do want them to be an item, and it’s not fair anymore to keep the speculation going. It’s starting to feel on purpose as they’re really leaning into it.”
The mum-of-three has since insisted she takes nothing for granted in life and is embracing what comes her way. Helen, who is mum to her three children – Elsie, Ernie and Louis – added her work-life balance is about right at the moment.
“I used to stress about coming back to work after having my kids, but now they love what I do. My eldest [Ernie, 10] is gutted every year that I can’t do Strictly.
“Every now and again, they say something that just brings me to my knees – like when one of them recently said to someone, ‘My mum’s Helen Skelton!’ They also think I’m completely embarrassing.”
