People were evacuated from their homes after a car smashed into a beauty salon this evening (January 8). Emergency services were called to Hyde Road, Gorton following the incident.
Greater Manchester Police say a car collided with a shop at around 6pm. The driver of the vehicle left the scene and enquiries are taking place to find them.
Residents living in the flat above Dixa Hair and Beauty Salon were evacuated by firefighters. No injuries have been reported. According to the fire service, two cars were involved in the crash.
One of the cars was found on its side after crashing into the local beauty salon. Fire crews were in attendance for around two hours.
A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “Just after 6pm this evening (January 8), three fire engines from Gorton and Philips Park fire station were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on Hyde Road, Manchester.
“Crews arrived quickly at the scene, where one of the cars had crashed into a shop and ended up on its side.
“Firefighters using stabilisation equipment, thermal imaging camera, gas monitor, and a nine-meter ladder, worked with colleagues from Greater Manchester Police, Candent Gas and Manchester City Council Building Inspector to carry out safety checks and make the car and building safe.
“The flat above the shop was evacuated. Firefighters have been in attendance for around two hours and are still at the scene.”
