I reviewed the AirPods Pro 3’s live translation feature and they are now my new favourite earbuds
What are the Apple AirPods Pro 3?
The AirPods Pro 3 are Apple’s latest top-of-the-range wireless earbuds, sitting above the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation in the company’s in-ear headphones lineup. They were announced alongside the latest iPhone 17 models, the new, super-slim iPhone Air, and three new Apple Watches.
The AirPods Pro 3 cost £219 and should fit better in your ear, courtesy of a new design and more tip size options in the box. They offer improved noise cancellation compared to the older models, as well as a new heart rate sensor for workouts. They can also now translate conversations in real-time.
The previous AirPods Pro 2 have been my favourite in-ear headphones for the last two years, but the AirPods Pro 3 have ramped things up a notch. I’ve been using them almost non-stop since they were first announced, testing the sound quality, comfort, heart rate accuracy and the new Live Translation feature. Are these the in-ear Apple earbuds to buy?
JUMP TO:
I have been reviewing consumer technology for over 12 years, testing everything from the best wireless earbuds to the best smartphones. When I test headphones, I wear them for my daily work commute, around the house, on planes and trains, for my evening dog walks and during workouts.
I not only test the sound performance, but also call quality, how comfortable they are to wear for long-term listening and how good the noise cancellation is at blocking out sounds I’d rather not hear, like a plane engine or children’s soft play.
For the AirPods Pro 3, they were scored on five testing metrics like other wireless earbuds, including design and comfort, sound quality, noise cancellation and EQ, battery life and charging, and connectivity. I have used the AirPods Pro 3 for every phone call and every commute since they were released, and I have also used them during workouts to test out the accuracy of the heart rate sensor.
For the new Live Translation feature, I tested with a friend whose first language is French but who can also speak fluent English.
