I’ve been on the lookout for a new pair of trainers that are comfortable and durable
I’m a big fan of trainers, but it seems their prices have soared in recent years. If you’re after the trendy ones that all the teenagers are sporting, you can easily find yourself parting with nearly £100.
Consequently, I’ve worn my current collection to near extinction, including a cherished pair of Nikes that have been with me for about six years. They’ve served me incredibly well and were somewhat expensive at around £80, if memory serves.
Although the exact model is no longer available, the closest match I could find are these Nike React Visions, currently reduced to £71.49 from £129.99 on the Nike website. So, in my quest for a comfortable pair, I decided to try out Skechers Summits Sneakers, reports the Mirror.
An impressive Amazon deal has slashed the price of the Skechers Summits Sneakers by 45% from £59 to a more wallet-friendly £32.49. The price was enticing, and after perusing the reviews and noting the overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding comfort, I decided to take the leap.
It’s still early days, but so far, it appears to be an excellent choice – they’re so comfortable that I’m contemplating purchasing a second pair while they’re still this affordable. There are several colour options available (though prices fluctuate based on colour and size), but I opted for black to ensure they don’t appear grubby every time I wear them in damp weather.

I’ve only had them for a few days, but the comfort level has already exceeded my expectations. I have a couple of family members who swear by Skechers, and now I can certainly see why.
The cushioning is exceptional, particularly at this price point, featuring insoles with a substantial layer of memory foam that delivers a genuine cloud-like sensation underfoot, plus, the slip-on design is another major plus. I’m already a devoted Crocs wearer for precisely this reason, keeping a pair by the back door for quick trips outside to put the bins out (assuming the dog hasn’t pinched them) – it simply makes them incredibly practical.
My sole minor quibble thus far is that the absence of laces results in a slightly looser fit than I’d normally have with my footwear. Whilst not a major issue, it is perceptible, and those who prefer their laces pulled snug might find this slip-on style less suitable.
For shoppers who favour traditional laces, Sports Direct has reduced a pair of New Balance Road Running shoes by £10, now priced at £49.99. They feature a fresh foam midsole with lightweight cushioning.
Amazon reviewers have been overwhelmingly positive about the Skechers Summits Sneakers, with the trainers achieving an average rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. One customer commented: “Fantastic work shoes for nurses. Lightweight, exceedingly comfortable and durable. Will be buying more when needed if the price is reasonable.”
Another added: “Reliable and comfortable, not the first time I’ve bought this style from Skechers. They’re easy to slip on and don’t squeeze my feet, which is a big plus. I usually try to grab them when they’re on offer due to our budget, but honestly, they’re worth full price if you can stretch to it.”
A third person commented: “Good fit, light as a feather. I use a long shoe horn that makes them incredibly easy to put on. Very comfy.”
However, despite the positive feedback, a few customers highlighted some issues. One of them noted: “Once the trainers are on, they are very light and comfortable. The problem is getting them on. The aperture where you insert your foot is very tight, with not a lot of flexibility.”
