Iconic Glasgow cocktail bar confirms opening of second venue with a 'twist'

The new venue is set to offer everything from coffee mornings to late night drinks and DJ sessions.

Glasgow is home to many popular bars. One that has become instantly recognisable over the years with locals is about to get a second venue.

Tabac’s vintage-style interior design and menu of signature cocktails have led to the drinks hotspot, which is currently located near Buchanan Street on Mitchell Lane, becoming one of the city’s most reliable destinations.

Following its popularity, Tabac bosses have confirmed that they will be opening a new Southside venue before November ends, as it is set to take over the former Bungo Bar & kitchen on site on Nithsdale Road in Strathbungo.

Set to bring a “Spanish” twist to its already iconic reputation, the new Tabac will act as a true neighbourhood hub similar to its predecessor, with everything from coffee mornings and brunches to late night drinks, dinners and DJ sessions for a “community-led feel”.

The new site, which will be named after the Spanish equivalent of Tabac, will bring in previous Tabac Assistant Manager Ross as General Manager, while Luca McKenna joins the team as his assistant.

Glasgow visitors will find that the new Tabac offers a Spanish-inspired menu that will be packed with brunch plates, tapas classics, charcuterie, bar snacks and sharing boards.

There will also be weekly fixtures including Sunday paella and sangria lunches, all which can be paired with Good Coffee Cartel coffee, wines, beers on draft and cocktail specials crafted with input from Tabac’s top bartenders.

Visitors will also find that the existing downstairs events space is still available for community use and private hire, with bosses also planning regular collaborations with its new Strathbungo neighbours.

These will include everything from bank-holiday parties and sets from a mix of Tabac residents, Southside DJs and special guests.

Ross Jordan said: “Tabac is the community’s bar as much as it is ours. We’ll continue to talk to locals to find out what they really want, and then it’s up to us to make it happen.

“With the food offering, community focus, DJs, and the unmistakable Tabac energy, we hope the new venue will become a true Southside local from day one.”

Luca McKenna said: “Tabac always was my go-to spot for cocktails, then it became somewhere I could express my passion for drinks and explore creative ideas.

“Now we get to bring this to the Southside. Strathbungo has an incredible community – we can’t wait to add to it.”

Ahead of the new Tabac opening before the end of the month, there have been a few more announcements for Glasgow recently, including the opening of the city’s first Anthropologie that caused massive queues.

The lifestyle brand can be found on the first floor of the Princes Square Mall on Buchanan Street, with the 4,300 sq. ft unit boasting everything from fashion, homeware, and lifestyle ‘must-haves’.
