A chilling true crime documentary is set to return to TV screens tonight (January 13) with a brand new instalment that fans do not want to miss.

24 Hours in Police Custody is a Channel 4 documentary which follows a real-life police force as they are thrown into the world of crime.

The landmark documentary captures the drama that unfolds within the local police force, following detectives as they investigate major and often intense crimes.

The true crime series has become a huge hit with fans over the years who cannot get enough, with a brand new episode airing just last month. At the time, viewers were hailing it as “insane” and the “best show ever”.

Now, fans will be delighted to hear that 24 Hours in Police Custody is back on live TV – and true crime fans are being urged not to miss it.

Tonight’s instalment is titled 24 Hours in Police Custody: The Secret Network and will air at 9pm on Channel 4. It is set to follow Bedfordshire Police’s covert investigation into the individuals using the encrypted phone networks.

The broadcaster’s TV Guide teases: “After a Luton shotgun attack, police track a suspected drugs and arms dealer using Encrochat, the hacked WhatsApp for criminals. But has their main suspect already fled?”

The new episode, which was filmed in 2020, will follow detectives as they uncover the true extent of the criminality within the Encrochat network.

According to Bedforshire Police, in one investigation, messages linked to a Luton-based offender reveal involvement in the supply of weapons and drugs.

The police force continued: “The episode captures the early stages of Operation Costello, Bedfordshire Police’s largest and most complex initiative targeting serious and organised crime.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Duncan Young, who oversees the force’s Intelligence command, said: “Our long standing partnership of over a decade with 24 Hours in Police Custody gives the public a transparent view of the realities of modern policing.

“It shows the skill, determination and compassion our officers bring to every single case, and I’m proud of the professionalism on display throughout this episode.”

Another brand new instalment is set to air on Tuesday, January 20 looking into the investigation surrounding Zombie Knives.

24 Hours in Police Custody: The Secret Network airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
