With over two decades of law enforcement experience, Vicki transitioned to the Richland’s Missing Persons Unit after serving in Major Crimes. She is a highly experienced police officer with very little fazing her.
From a young age, her interest in law enforcement was evident, despite her mother’s attempts to dissuade her from joining the police force, as viewers discovered in the first series. However, her father was supportive and told her: “If that’s what’s in your heart, then you should definitely go do it. Treat people fair, treat people right, and be safe.”

Vicki began her career in the police force in Kansas in the late 1990s, according to TheCinemaholic, before relocating to South Carolina, where she currently resides and works. Throughout her career, she had the chance to return to homicide or switch to a completely different department, but she opted for the missing persons’ department.
She described the opportunity to reunite a missing person with their loved ones as an “amazing feeling”, allowing her to share in the joy of finding the individual alive and returning them to their friends and family. While she found satisfaction in securing justice for crime victims during her time in homicide, Vicki expressed that the “overwhelming” emotion experienced in reuniting families in missing persons’ cases was unique and something she’d “never felt that feeling before”.
Speaking in 2023 about maintaining her composure whilst working these deeply emotional cases, Vicki explained on Conversations with Nicole: “You know that the family is counting on you. You’re the link that’s hopefully going to bring their loved one home, so you kind of have to compartmentalise your emotions and put them in a box until the case is over. Then you sit down and it’s like an overwhelming amount of emotions, especially if it doesn’t end good.”
She acknowledged that even after officers returned home each evening, they would continue thinking about the case and questioning whether they should have searched more extensively or in different locations to locate a missing person. Vicki emphasised how profoundly her work affected her as she worked tirelessly to trace people who had vanished.
