Jammie Dodger factory 'delighted' by Paddy McGuinness visit

The Farnworth-born presenter is on the BBC One this evening (January 6) to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how Jammie Dodgers are made on the hit show Inside the Factory.

The factory in Llantarnam, South Wales – owned by Fox’s Burton’s Companies – takes centre stage on tonight’s episode of Inside the Factory.

Rebecca Philips, general manager at Fox’s Burton’s Llantarnam factory, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Inside the Factory team to our site earlier this year.

“It was great to share the mischief and magic that goes into making our Jammie Dodgers and celebrate the teams that work hard every day to produce millions of biscuits”.

The factory has been producing biscuits since 1939 – and now produces a staggering 4.4 billion Jammie Dodgers every year.

The iconic biscuit has become one of the UK’s best known sweet treats since it was first baked in the 1960s.

Paddy will follows every step of the process, including the role of the massive machines that mix flour, sugar and butter into dough, which is then stamped into heart shapes, baked, filled with raspberry-flavoured apple jam.

While Paddy meets the dedicated team behind the magic, Cherry Healey finds out which biscuit is scientifically best for dunking in tea, and historian Ruth Goodman reveals how biscuits powered Britain through the wars.

The Jammie Dodger episode of Inside the Factory airs on BBC One tonight at 8pm and will be available on BBC iPlayer shortly after broadcast.
