Jeffrey Holland, successor to lead Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints dies aged 85

THE man in line to lead the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has died aged 85.
Jeffrey R. Holland was in line to become the president of the faith.

The church confirmed that he died on Saturday morning from complications associated with kidney disease.
Holland died in Salt Lake City, Utah, the world headquarters of the Mormon faith.
He led the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and was set to take over from current President Dallin H. Oaks.
Leadership is entirely based on seniority within the faith and because of this, the line of succession is established long in advance.
Following Holland’s death, Henry B. Eyring, 92, is now set to take on the presidency after Oaks, 93.
“With heavy hearts, we announce that President Jeffrey R. Holland, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at approximately 3:15 a.m. MST from complications associated with kidney disease, while surrounded by his family. He was 85,” the church said.
“President Holland was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Terry, who passed away on July 20, 2023,” it added.
“He is survived by their three children, 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.“
