A Jet2 flight from Tenerife has declared an emergency on approach to Edinburgh Airport.
An Edinburgh-bound flight returning from the Canary Islands has declared a general emergency. Departing Tenerife South Airport this afternoon, the Jet2 flight has landed at Edinburgh this evening.
The exact nature of the emergency onboard is unknown. Flight LS728 departed the Canary Islands at 1.55pm this afternoon according to data from flight tracking app FlightRadar24.
It arrived at Edinburgh at 6.30pm, around 15 minutes earlier than scheduled. On it’s final approach, it was on of the most tracked flights globally on FlightRadar24.
During the flight’s approach to the capital, the pilots initiated a procedure known as squawking 7700 which means a general emergency has been declared.
It can cover a range of scenarios including a technical or medical emergency.
The procedure allows air traffic controllers and ground crews to respond to the emergency in the most effective manner.
Flight LS728 was the second flight from the Canary Islands to Scotland to declare an emergency today after an EasyJet flight to Glasgow had to make an emergency landing in Dublin this morning.
Jet2 were contacted for comment.
