Pep Guardiola said the injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias don’t ‘look good’ after both came off during Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

City missed out on the opportunity to move back within four points of Premier League leaders Arsenal as Enzo Fernandez’s injury-time strike earned managerless Chelsea a point at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola’s side took the lead through Tijjani Reijnders’ second goal in three league games, but were pegged back in the fourth minute of added time when Fernandez poked home a cross at the back post.

And to make matters worse for the hosts, the two dropped points were also compounded by injuries to both of their central defenders.

Gvardiol was forced off after 51 minutes following a tangle with Malo Gusto, while Guardiola confirmed that Dias’ subsitution in the 81st minute was also enforced.

City are back in league action in just three days at home to Brighton, and Guardiola suggested that both will likely miss the encounter.

‘We will see tomorrow, it doesn’t look good with him (Gvardiol) and Ruben so we’ll see what happens,’ Guardiola said in his post-match press conference.

Asked if Dias’ injury was muscular, Guardiola responded: ‘Yep, looks like it. I didn’t speak with him or the doctor, but if Ruben is out, it’s because he felt something.’

Abdukodir Khusanov and Nathan Ake replaced Gvardiol and Dias, but City are short of additional options, with John Stones currently sidelined with a long-term injury.

‘Of course, we have a lot (of injuries at centre back),’ Guardiola added.

‘John Stones is missing for I don’t know how many months. Ruben now will be out, Josko will be out.

‘Nathan (Ake), as we know cannot play regularly, so it’s a situation. But at the same time, it happened last season, so we’ll stay strong and we’ll find a solution. The spirit will be there.’

Sunday’s result means City now trail leaders Arsenal by six points, but Guardiola was not in the mood to make sweeping predictions about the title race at this stage.
