The service, based in the Annex of Onthank Primary School, Meiklewood Road, was graded ‘very good’ across two quality indicators and ‘good’ across one other.

It comes in the wake of an unannounced visit from the Care Inspectorate in December with the findings now published.

Among the key messages the Care Inspectorate said children experienced “warm, responsive care” that promoted “emotional wellbeing and confidence.”

And staff interactions were “consistently respectful and purposeful,” supporting language, problem-solving, and social skills.

In addition, children were “highly motivated and engaged” in meaningful play, with freedom of choice and opportunities to lead their own learning.

In terms of personal plans, they reflected children’s holistic needs and interests, and were used “effectively” to guide practice and “achieve positive outcomes.”

Leadership created a “positive culture” where staff felt supported and confident, resulting in “quality experiences” for children.

And strong partnerships with families ensured regular communication and flexibility, “enhancing” children’s care and learning.

PEACE Childcare (PEACE) is the registered provider of this day care of children service. PEACE is a charitable organisation managed by a voluntary board of directors.

An extract from the Care Inspectorate report said “several important strengths” “clearly outweighed” areas for improvement.

“These strengths had a significant positive impact on outcomes for children and families,” the report states. “The service operated under a clear aim to provide quality, affordable, flexible childcare that enabled parents to access employment, education, and training.

“Staff demonstrated commitment to this vision, and their practice consistently reflected child-centred values.”

Children benefited from a “welcoming environment” where they felt happy and secure.

Staff wellbeing was “prioritised” too, creating a “positive culture” that supported inclusion and stability.

Leadership at the service was graded ‘good’ and in the quality indicators relating to children’s play and learning- and efforts to help children achieve- these were graded as ‘very good.’

The report adds: “Overall, children benefited from an enabling environment where play was purposeful, fun, and inclusive.”
