Lidl reveals plans to open 19 new UK stores – the full list
The supermarket giant already has more than 1,000 stores located across the UK.
These 19 new shops will see Lidl expand its presence to new parts of the country, including Calne (Wiltshire) and Brough (Yorkshire), and create up to 640 new jobs.
The new openings mark a continued period of rapid growth, as the supermarket chain strengthens its position as one of the UK’s fastest-growing retailers.
Lidl also announced plans to refurbish more than 70 existing stores from Dundee to the Isle of Wight.
A £43 million investment will enhance these “much-loved” stores and will include the addition of new tills and larger freezers to offer a greater range of products, as well as several energy-saving features.
Chief Real Estate Officer at Lidl GB, Richard Taylor, said: “We’re starting the new year as we mean to go on, with a major investment that reinforces our commitment to delivering the best experience for customers and creating a positive impact for the communities we serve.
“With this push, we’re set on winning more shoppers across the nation and claiming an even bigger share of the market.”

Other major supermarkets opening new stores in 2026
Lidl isn’t the only major supermarket with plans to open new UK stores in 2026.
Last year, Aldi revealed plans to open 80 new stores nationwide in 2026/27 as part of a £1.6 billion expansion.
Aldi currently has 1,060 stores in the UK, but plans to expand this to 1,500 over the coming years.
The 2026/27 expansion will create thousands of new jobs and more opportunities for British suppliers.
In addition to these new stores, the £1.6bn investment will also be used to upgrade existing supermarkets and further develop Aldi’s distribution network.

Marks and Spencer (M&S) also previously revealed a list of 500 locations in the UK it is considering for new stores.
The full list of locations can be found on the M&S website.
M&S currently has more than 220 full-line and 310 Food stores across the UK, with up to 20 new sites already scheduled to open before the end of the financial year, creating around 800 new jobs.

M&S said it is opening stores with “the right space in the right places” as it looks to double the size of its food business and modernise its store estate.
The retailer is looking to expand the size of its Food stores to “stock a fuller range and attract more customers to do their weekly shop”.
This follows the “excellent” performance of the new M&S Food stores that have opened in the last three years.
