M6 grinds to a halt with all lanes closed after 'serious' crash as drivers hit with long delays

A MAJOR motorway was forced to close after a “serious” crash sparked long delays.

The M6 northbound shut between Junction 6 (Birmingham) and Junction 7 (Great Barr) in the early hours of the morning following a crash, National Highways said.

Traffic officers rushed to the scene assisting with full carriageway closures and traffic management measures.

West Midlands Police are leading the response, supported by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The road has been shut for more than four hours before reopening at around 6.30am this morning.

Recovery teams were present at the scene as the morning rush hour begins.

Any injuries as a result of the collision are not yet known.

“Due to the nature of the incident, the closure is expected to be protracted,” National Highways said earlier.
