Man admits glassing at Peterlee's former Eden Bar

Anthony Wilkinson previously denied the allegation relating to the assault at the Eden Bar, on Bede Way, Peterlee, and a trial was fixed to start on Wednesday March 4 this year.

A glass was said to have been used to inflict an eye injury on the victim, in the incident dating from Saturday, July 6, 2024.

But the case came back before Durham Crown Court this week (January 21), when Calum McNicholas, representing Wilkinson, asked that the unlawful wounding charge be put again to his client.

This time, he pleaded guilty, which the court heard was “acceptable” to the prosecution.

Judge Richard Bennett adjourned the hearing to allow for preparation of a background report on the defendant by the Probation Service, prior to sentence.
