Man arrested after armed police and negotiators called to Sowerby

Police were called to reports of an aggravated burglary at a property in Sowerby at 5.19am this morning.

The occupants were brought to safety by 5.52am and the suspect was located inside a nearby property.

A police spokesperson said: “A safety cordon was put in place while a police operation got underway involving armed officers, trained negotiators, and a police drone.

“It was brought to a safe conclusion at 12.03pm when the 31-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

“He has been taken into custody for questioning.

“The victims have been safeguarded and are receiving support while the investigation continues at the address.”
